Egyptian Doctor's Family Dispute in Saudi Arabia

A family dispute between an Egyptian doctor who worked in Saudi Arabia and his children has become a public issue after going viral on social media. The doctor, Dr. Mohamed Abdel Ghani Qassem, appeared in a circulating video on the platform 'X', speaking about what he described as his children's 'ingratitude.' He confirmed that they had taken control of all the money, properties, and cars he had accumulated over more than 30 years of working abroad. According to his account, he was shocked when his eldest son, with the help of his sister, took control of this fortune. The doctor explained that he spent many years abroad, with a monthly income of up to 500,000 Egyptian pounds, most of which he sent to his children to cover their personal and educational expenses. He would visit his family once a year or every two years for a short period before returning to work. Dr. Mohamed Abdel Ghani stated that the crisis erupted about eight months ago following a phone call with his eldest son, Youssef, who informed him of his intention to return to Egypt permanently. He described his son's reaction as shocking, as they engaged in a heated argument and his son made hurtful remarks, ignoring everything he had done for him over the years. The doctor has six children, four of whom are in conflict with him, while two support him. He asserts that his children control his entire fortune, attributing the dispute to 'greed.' He claims his son was afraid that his father would reclaim his money and property upon his return, even though he had funded his education, marriage, and enrollment in a private engineering college. The intensity of the conflicts has affected his health and caused him to suffer a stroke. The financial crisis within the family, residing in Zagazig city in the Sharqia governorate, has led to a division among the children, with some supporting the father and others opposing him, amidst the escalating dispute that has been widely circulated. In contrast, the eldest son, Youssef Mohamed, 39, denied the validity of his father's story, confirming that the origin of most of the money was their mother's inheritance, who died in 2012. He explained that the family had divided the estate at that time, and the situation was stable for years, despite the father marrying multiple times after his wife's death. Youssef stated that the disputes began when his father demanded that he and his siblings relinquish their mother's assets, in addition to demanding the return of the money he had sent over the years. He pointed out that this money belonged to their mother, who was his father's business partner. Youssef confirmed that the family had repeatedly tried to contain the crisis and resolve it amicably to no avail. He mentioned that there are several pending court cases between the parties, adding that he remains open to reconciling with his father on the condition of not giving up his legal rights. The doctor's eldest daughter, in turn, stated that what is being circulated on social media does not reflect the reality of the family's relationships. She emphasized that the case is more complex than it appears to the public, and that only God knows its full details. In statements to Egyptian media, she added that her mother's death in 2011 and the father's subsequent multiple marriages and divorces left a profound psychological impact on the family. She stressed that the family belongs to an environment known for its good reputation and good character, and that its name has never been a subject of doubt. She clarified that her brother Youssef, who was accused of threatening his father, works as an electrical engineer and a consultant for pharmaceutical companies. He comes from a medical family, where both his father and late mother worked in the medical profession. She confirmed that he is known in his professional and social circle for his good conduct and constant pursuit of helping others.
